I WAVE THIS FLAG

I don't wave this flag proudly because it's mine or yours. No, I wave this flag smartly because its dream yet endures. Muddied and shredded it has traveled thousands of miles. Yet, it can still signify freedom to the oppressed and defiled. I proudly wave this flag, despite the terrors of unjust men. It still signifies and honors those who dared to make a stand. Yes, there is oppression and many people have been wronged. Yet, as long as she waves there is faith that we can get along. I wave it as a veteran defending our country day and night. It signifies to the world that we can stand for what is right. I wave this flag thinking of all the blood patriots have spent. It honors all our ancestors that gave it all their strength. Some wave it for freedom; some wave it just for pride. Some wave it in memorial, to honor our heroes who have died. Yet, I never wave this flag because it's yours or its mine. I wave it because I believe its dream of freedom still abides. © 2012 Eddie Phillips
