I Have A Few Questions

Can I ask you a few questions? What if it was your brother that was shot dead on the street? How would you feel if it was your father on the ground getting beat? Would you sit in stoic silence or scream and beg for the police to stop? Could you silently watch your mother being brutalized by a cop? What if it were your child that was senselessly gunned down at play? How would you survive that? How would you live through each day? How would you respond when the police stop you unfairly, time after time? Could you always remain pleasant knowing you never committed a crime? Could you remain composed when several of them throw you to the ground? When they twist and break your arm, would you be able to not to make a sound? How would you react to being continually beaten and racially defiled? Do you think you would comply when they punch away your smile? Ultimately, these questions are about our shared humanity. How can we watch America destroyed by prejudiced insanity? Why do you make excuses that ignore the visions in front of your eyes? How do you find the strength to watch a victim's children cry? Why do we justify police executions and ignore what we obviously see? Why can any law abiding citizen allow an overt murderer to walk free? Profiling is an evil that citizens and lawmakers have ignored for years. Why do we allow police to deny rights to your Black peers? If all lives matter, why do you ignore the sanctity of black life? Why do you only see a criminal and not a child, husband, or wife? Why do you say they deserve to die for a simple misdemeanor crime? What created this murderous facade that occupies your biased mind? Is it because many of you see blacks as loose and not truly free? Am I clear to assume this because of what I hear and what I see? I am only asking simple questions because we continue to see the loss of life. Maybe if we answer these in-depth questions we can avoid more death and strife. Ask yourself these questions before more of our American citizens fall. The loss of our brothers and sisters should make the need for change clear to all. © Eddie Phillips
